German is a West Germanic language, thus related to and classified alongside English and Dutch. It is one of the world's major languages and the most widely spoken first language in the European Union. Globally, German is spoken by approximately 120 million native speakers and also by about 80 million non-native speakers. Standard German is widely taught in schools, universities and Goethe Institutes worldwide.
German is considered one of the major world languages, although it cannot compete to other languages such as Hindu or Chinese, or English or French or Spanish in terms of the number of its speakers, German is important because of the economy and the political power of the German-speaking countries. More German speakers are concentrated in Central Europe, in the following countries: Germany, Austria, Poland, Luxembourg and some parts of Switzerland, Belgium, Romania and Italy.
Languages were in "cooperation" during the fixed earlier times, to affect each other. The fact that they share the same class, the West German and Latin influences
making them closer to each other. A lot of similarity of words between English and German, which makes it easier for English speakers memorize words and
improve the vocabulary of German. These words are called cognates, and there are three major categories of such words that you can distinguish them:
Cognates Real - these words have exactly the same shape and same meaning in both English and German, making them very easy to use from both sides. cognates is also true voice of both spelled alike in both languages.
Cognates CSS Group - cognates include words that share the same meaning but has a phonology or spelling is slightly different. This particular group is the greater of cognates, contains hundreds of words such as (German version - English version): Bett - bed, a coffin - beer, Gott - God, Haus - house, Maus - mouse, Katze - snapshot, Lachen - laugh, simply put - Wettest summer - Wheather and so on.
False Cognates - the latter group's cognates can give people new to the difficulty of learning German.Many of the chapters of "Learning German" and German lessons on the Internet will have classes focused especially devoted to fake (or false) cognates because of the ease with which a new student can be confused. cognates false words that look and / or look the same in both languages but their meaning is totally different.
